Installing "H" Water Valve

---
I.  Locate water valve assembly.

1. Locate water valve assembly in engine compartment on passenger side firewall (figure 1)

2. Mark the hose going to the valve side of the water valve assembly.

II.  Unit using "H" bypass valve assemblies.

1. On units using H-bypass valve assembly, loosen clamps nearest the evaporator case and disconnect hoses from heater core. Retain clamps. NOTE: ENGINE COOLANT WILL BE LOST

2. Loosen clamps at the far end of the "H" bypass and retain the clamps (the clamped heater hoses run from the engine to the "H" bypass). Disconnect hoses from the "H" bypass.

3. Remove push nut from bowden cable pin and retain.

4. Loosen screw securing bowden cable to water valve assembly and remove water valve assembly from vehicle.

III. Units using only water valve assembly.

1. On units using only the water valve assembly, loosen clamps nearest the evaporator case and disconnect hoses from heater core. NOTE: ENGINE COOLANT WILL BE LOST.

2. Loosen clamp at the far end of the water valve and retain clamps (the clamped heater hose runs from the engine to the water valve). Disconnect this hose from the valve.

3. Remove push nut from bowden cable pin and retain.

4. Loosen screw securing the bowden cable to water valve bracket and remove water valve from vehicle.

IV. Install new water valve

1. Using water valve assembly provided, install the hoses using two of the clamps removed earlier onto the heater core tubes.

2. Connect the marked hose to the valve portion of the assembly and the other hose to the other port of the water valve assembly. Use clamps removed earlier to secure.

3. With temperature on control head in full COLD position, and valve arm in full OFF position, secure the end of the bowden cable to the valve arm pin using the push nut removed earlier.

4. Keep the temperature arm in full COLD position and the valve in full OFF position. Slide bowden cable into bowden cable clamp on bracket and secure.

5. Refill coolant to proper level.
